I have a 79 f250 400, c6. if drive just long enough to warm the engine up then stop and shut it off it will crank at normal speed but wont start. I have fuel and spark. I swaped the modulator with an extra one i have and it didnt change anything. Once the truck cools down it will start on the first bump of the key again. just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. or if you think both modulators could have the same issue, and if you think a napa brand modulator is o.k. or should i try to find a motorcraft. thanks
thanks for the info. if it were vapor lock i think it would be an issue every time it got hot. it is factory carb and everything else because of california's ingenious smog laws.(doesnt matter how it runs as long as you pay to have all the original parts)sorry pet peve)) i should replace the fuel filter(s) and the timing is on, but bottomfeeders post made me try to pull the distributor and i cant. cant even rotate to adjust. sgtrwg said that fixed the problem so i will try it. i am curious though how that would keep it from starting. is the pickup expanding from the heat?, then arking or grounding? if so why would it not die while running? maybe i'm not thinking correctly or missing somthing. if someone is willing to explain that would be great. thanks again for the replys.
