Need new tires

I have a 03 X 6.0 with 112000 miles
Tires were replaced 44000 with recall now I need advice on brand of tires to buy
I have seen alot of Mich. LTX . Most of my miles are highway in northern Minnesota.
Also wondering if new shocks would help the ride even if they arent leaking
and what kind you would recommend ?
I really value the opinions on this forum, you guys have saved me alot of time and money.

I like and always recommend Bridgestone Dueler REVOS. Great tire and would be good in the snow.

Shocks? Oh boy...lots a choices! I had Ranchos 9000's on my last one. Mopst naything is better than stock. How's the shock budget?

Try a set of Toyo Open Country HT. Excellent quality, low noise, and good mileage. I would sipe them also, will aid in snow and ice traction. As for shocks, I would recommend a good monotube unit like a Bilstien or equivalent. They go a long way to help control sway and body roll.

Thank you for the advice!

Was going to trade it in but I got trade-in shock
Now I will put some money into it and the price of the shocks really dont matter

Hello Gentlemen
BFG All-Terrains, standard size and bigger ( 33,12.5,16.5 ) have been working exelent for me.
My driving conditions are pretty similar as yours ( used to live in Duluth ). As you are not allowed to use spikes, Nokia is not for you. They are best on snow and ice.

I bought REVO's as well and have about 18K miles on 'em... I still like the tire alot.. I am in western NY and we get plenty of snow... No problems at all! The REVO's are slightly noiser than they were when new.... I think the rubber compund on initial part of tread is softer (and quieter) and as normal wear occurs and rubber compound changes, there is a slight increase in noise.. nothing bothersone however.

I also use Rancho 9000 shocks mostly because I like to adjust the ride as needed.. (towing VS long family road trip VS daily driving alone, etc)

good luck!

Bill

I have had Goodyear MTR's, almost 50k, excellent in snow/mud, good overall, 50k in mountains is pretty good wear to me, sounds like a mud tire on the freeway. Nitto Terra Grapplers, not quite 30k, good tire, to soft for up here, I now have a set of Pro-Comp AT's w/50k warranty fixin to go on, we will see!

I drive mine on Coopers. Good tires too often underestimated. Jim

Don't expect 50,000 on those Pro-Comps (which are built by Cooper by the way) if you own a Powerstroke. Just too much torque. If you don't mind a little noise and you want some mileage out of a traction tire, look at Toyo's Open Country MT. It is made with a medium duty truck compound and wears like iron compared to the others. This is what I run on my '05 X, 6.0. 11,000 miles on them (33X12.50R-18) and only 3/32 worn off so far. They are available in the standard sizes for the X as well.

Doggone it, I almost got those, however, the pricing on the Pro-Comps were not quite $160 each tags/taxes/title/otd, so price won out in the end. If I get 30k, I still go back to 4 Wheel Parts and they pro-rate them, and THEN I buy the Toyo's with money they give me back form the Pro-comps.

My cooper tires are wearing well. They were sold under the name Mastercraft. I have no issues buying them again. Don't be afraid of the Coopers, they are good tires. Jim

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trashing Coopers. We sell a lot of them under the Dean private brand label. They work great in the right application. We haven't had luck with very many tires at all(regardless of brand) bringing good mileage on the Big 3's diesels. Especially when you get away from the the 5 rib highway design. Toyo's Open Country MT seems to be the exception and we've also had OK results with Dean's Mud Terrain SXT (built by Cooper). This situation isn't likely to improve with more power coming for '07. Rock on Ford, I'll take the power.

Hey Pick up and others-
I have the Nitto Terra Grapplers in 35s and have about 20K on em now and not to 1/2 way I bet. With this truck, I was only hoping for 35K out of a set knowing 50K was more than possible. I have Procomp X terrains on a Wrangler and after 5k they are worn about 5 or 6/32 already. I will be lucky to make 20k on that set. I would love the look of the X terrain on the X but the weight would kill em. I am very happy with the Nittos, but I live in the south. I am looking to the new ATX from Mickey next, or Toyo MTs. Definitely something more aggressive albeit shorter life.
