Washing post-clay is often a matter of opinion. Many don't. I'd suggest visiting Meguiars Online. They have numerous threads that answer questions about clay bars and more. It's a site that can be addictive. Good luck!
I've never washed my truck after claying.
..never had a problem with my results.
I use Adam's Polish and on their site their recommended process does not include washing after claying.
After you claybar, you will have some claybar residue on the vehicle, dirty claybar lubricant, and some of the impurities that you just cleaned off of the truck will be loose on the surface. It's like washing your truck with soap and water and not giving it a good rinse to get all the soap off. Makes no scense to me......
I'm not sure what other folk's processess are, but with me you only clay a small portion at a time. Obviously you use some type of detail spray (lubricant) for the application. With me, after I clay that particular area I re-apply detail spray and wipe that area clean.
After a I completely clay an area, like the hood for example, I entirely go over it again with detail spray. I then feel to make sure it is baby a@# smooth. If not, I re-clay the spots that require it. If it's cool then I proceed with polish and finish off with butter wax...
...with a mirror result that is rediculously smooth to the touch.
sounds silly but after i clay bar my truck should i wash it again before i wax it?
Jason, it depends on the clay, the lubricant, and the towel you use. Some clays leave residue and some do not. A microfiber towel will also remove virtually all residue if enough lubricant is used.
I prefer to 1) wash, 2) clay, 3) polish every 6 months, and wax as often as you wish. The polishing step will take care of the clay residue and bring the paint to perfection at the same time!
