This is a 2003 F250 4x4 with a 5.4,Has 61,000 miles on it. Its been about to make me crazy now for about two weeks. This all started a few days after power washing the engine compartment. I stopped at a stop sign one day and felt it miss. From that day on its gotten worse. It will idle smooth and about every 20 seconds it will miss and then return to normal idle. It will miss at any speed going down the road. Does seem to clean up if I accellerate. I changed the fuel filter first, Did not help. Checked the air cleaner, Discovered the round plastic cone on the end of the filter had fallen off. It was Laying in the bottom of the filter box parcially blocking the air intake hole. Replaced filter, But did not help. A lot of the advice that Ive read on here about this problem points at the coils, boots, spark plugs, PVC hose. The check engine light is not on. Spark plugs are original. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. I plan to start checking the mentioned items tomorrow. Is there any way to check the coils?

Sounds like there is moisture in a coil boot. I would pull them all, look for moisture, if there is any, get it dried out, compressed air works good, then apply dielectric grease to the boots before reinstalling. Water and COP's do not mix.
