I finally got my 64 to my house what a relief. the right wheel was fine the left was too loose.i got it home safe, i drove it around my dads 35 acre lot for about an hour but i noticed the speedometer doesnt work What the hell. i have no clue whats wrong. i havent had a problem with the steering so i dont think i need steering box but the brakes definatly could use new shoes, cylinders, lines the worx. i found a seat lol, my friend toataled his 82 ford. funny he wasnt even in it. didnt leave the emergency brake on it rolled down a hil hit 3 trees on the way down, so he wont be driveing it at all engines crunched. SO i have a seat for free! Is there anyway to add weight to the back of the truck because i got stuck going up a hill it wouldnt go up but i can do it in the rach truck its a chevy 2wd and it makes it up flawlessly thanx GUys for all the help so far
The speed-o cable is likely broken. Remove the cable housing from the transmission and pull the cable out for an inspection and light lubrication. Re install and try it out. The reason the Ford would not climb the hill and the Chevy would is because the Chevy has positraction and your old Ford doesn't. Check out your friends wrecked truck, it may have a posi rear end that you could swap. There are a couple of ways to do that and you should decide before you do the rear brakes on your old Ford. Glad you got home safely, 35 acres eh! Lots of room to park spare trucks.
