My remote stopped working the other night on my 01 250. I hit it twice to unlock all the doors, and it only unlocked the drivers door. I was about 25 feet away, but it still didn't work right next to the truck.
I swapped batteries and it didn't fix it. I figured I would try reprogramming it per the manual, but the doors don't lock/unlock after turning the ignition switch from position 3 to 4, 8 times, and programming doesn't work. I also tried programming the remote from my wife's escape from the same year to the truck, and it didn't work (it does have a different number on the back, so maybe it's not compatible.)
I thinking the problem is with the truck and not the remote. Anything to check before a new remote gets here?
I'm thinking here may be a problem with the ignition switch. A while back the door chime was stuck on with the key in but door shut. There was a little piece of metal attached to a wire that had come loose that had come dislodged that was causing the problem. It's a sort of common problem because I remember reading a couple posts about removing it as a fix. Maybe that has something to do with it.
I have heard a story of spraying wd40 into the door lock mechanism, from the edge of the door with it open, where the pin catches. The switch that tells the computer the door is closed may be the issue, and is right there at the latch. The power lock actuator(s) might also be going bad.
I have also noticed on mine, that the remote won't unlock the doors from directly behind the truck, but will from the sides, or even across the street.
my door chime stays on with the key in and doors shut also. Also the door ajar light stays on always. dome light won't shut off when door shuts. The light has to time out to go off (10 min.). Could all of this be just because of a door switch or could it be the security module under the dash? Thanks for any help
It's not a problem with the mechanism or door switch on mine. I can still lock and unlock the doors with the switch on the door.
I played around with the strip of metal I taped off, but couldn't get it to fit correctly where it fell out. Looks like I will probably end up buying a new switch assembly.
