I have what looks like rusty water coming from two of my wheels' center caps that say Ford. Is this normal?? it like runs out sometimes and leaves a rusty water trail down the wheel...
In my experience it's not normal, I've owned 5 rangers, and have not had this problem. At the same time, I don't have a clue why you do. Maybe someone will have some input.
Whats the specs and stuff, and where do you park it. Did you take the cover off and look around to see if maybe it had something that was causing the water to lay in there (a.k.a. silicone[dont ask why, just check], or something else the could hold water in and pervent it from running through) i saw a problem like this once, the guy tried to water proof his hubs so he siliconed his cover, well water got in somewhere, likely the top, and couldn't get out the bottom.
They are the 5 spokes and the truck is usually parked in a garage. Truck is never driven through really deep water or anything, however we did have slight flooding the other day but it wasn't past the tire bead height wise. I can't get the little cap off. It's really small and doesn't seem to 'pop' off like the larger lug nut hiding hubcaps do...
oh yea, i forgot they changed the wheel. i was comapring to my wheel. i've never taken one of those wheels off before, but if i did, i would suspect that you wouldn't be able to acsess the hole from the other side of the wheel. if this is true i would suggest trying to work the cover off.once the cover is off dry it out, and get rid of the rust. Here's the tricky part. your gonna wanna buy RTV Silicone(Hardware store $5) The red stuff(stands up to higher heat levels) is best if your a hard braker, if your are easy on your brake you can save a few money and get the blue stuff. Find a "shelf" on the rim that holds the largest contact area between the part you popped off, and the rim. Clean both the cover and on the rim where the silicone is going very well, first with some dish soap, then rubbing alcohle. Put a nice sized bead of silicone in there, and try not to be skimpy. With your fingers, make a triangle out of the silicone(pinch the bead silicone yuou just made between your pointer finger and thumb). I advise wearing gloves, and doing this in a somewhat ventallated area. the stuff isn't super toxic, but it's not good for you either. Finnally put the cover on. Try not to mess up the silicone when doing this. Now if you have any that oozes out between the cover and rim, dont wipe it off. wait till it dries and cut it off. well if its a very small ammount. you can wipe but if you can grab it ince it's dry and use a razor it leaves less of a mess.
