air horns

I have a set of nathan K3 air horns off a train and I would like to know if any of you have put air horns on the X. What is a good location? The measurments are L: 18.25" W: 16.25" and H: 9.75"

Any Ideas would be great. The X is a 2003 limited with a v-10.

Thanks, Bryan

Well, finding a place for the horns themsleves are only 1/3 the battle. Next you have to mount a compressor and air tank. I have heard that if you replace your batteries with Optimas there is a mount that will hold both batteries in the space of one of the OEM batteries. This allows for a sizable compressor in the other battery bay. I think thats the route I'm going to take when I add OBA (on board air) to my rig. Haven't totally figured out where I'm going to mount the tank but there is plenty of room under the truck to mount it. Have you tried searching? I'd search the SD forums as well as the EX forums because there are a few on FTE that have added air horns. I wish I could help you out more but I have yet to add them to my truck.

Good luck!

I've seen guys who mount the horns right to the frame. That's where I'd mount those horns! Where'd you get them? I'd rather do that than ANY mod! When I do finally get around to it I'm gonna wire it so that my high beams come on when my horns sound!

If you need them, I think I can get air horns through work. Go to this website and see which ones you want, http://www.hadley-products.com/. The compressor can be mounted under the hood right behind the battery on the drivers side, where mine is for my airbags. The airtank can be fixed to the frame.

I too went the Hadley route.

My Ex is a V10, and I mounted the horns themselves behind the grille. They are mounted to the plastic shroud peice on the pass side, and the horns face the left side.

The compressor is mounted to the inner fender, just behind that cylindrical thing. The tank was mounted to a bracket we made, and the bracket was fastened to a pinch on the body about under the drivers seat..under the truck.

I was planning on mounting the tank and compressor on the frame rails. As for the horns themselves I was thinking about trying to move the vapor canister and mounting the horns on the inner fender well under the hood. I have not check recently if there is enough room. I know that the horns are WAY to big to mount behind the grill (although I would have loved to put them there). I wish there was a place behind the bumper, but that space is pretty tight. I have a compact two cyclinder pump that is dust and moister proof and a 10 gallon air tank that all fits nicly under the truck. The compressor is one that came off one of the railroad repair trucks so I know it will handle the horns and power all the tools that I want (thats what they used it for).

Thanks, Bryan

Monsta, I got the horns from a mechanic at the rail yard. They came off a 2003 diesel electric that was hit from the back in the yard.
