My 94 Ranger has developed a strange starting problem, When i go to start it is will start fine first time cranking, But if i do not get it started first time (ie i let of the starter to soon and it doesent catch) cranking it will not start, i will have to wait some period of time befor it will start again. if i try again to soon it will not start and then i will have to wait a longer period of time. it has taken from 30 sec to 15 min befor it would restart it isent a set amout of time, it seems random, what would possibly cause this.???? im about to do some long overdue work to it (plugs, wires Belts Ect.) so i hope that might help but its a problome ive net seen befor.
It is hard to tell what your problem is because it is unclear from your description whether the starter is still cranking but the engine won't turn over/start. If you are turning the key and getting nothing then that suggests problems in the starter and related components. But if the starter is working and cranking each time, that leads to a whole different set of issues. If you would clarify which it is perhaps some help can be offered.
.........it seems random, what would possibly cause this.????
Bad EEC or FP relay (an "occasional" problem on Rangers of this vintage) will do this, provided it's cranking. Try snapping each of them with your finger next time the problem happens. It would also simply troubleshooting if you can determine if it has not spark or no fuel when this is occuring.
Also i asume FP means fuel Pump...but could you plz tell me what EEC is short for I really know know that much about this vehicle im used to 60s 70s Vintage stuf...this is actually the only rige ive ever owned with Fuel injection
Also where abouts are these Relys located.? and what should they look like.? any pictures out there to help out.? (probobly not But hay cant hurt to ask )
EEC = Electronic Engine Control; this relay feeds power to the ECM (computer) when the ignition is on or in start. They are found in the PDB (Power Distribution Box), normally black in color, under the hood. In the PDB there will be some fuses and relays. The relays are an approx 3/4" square cube. You can't miss 'em.
