Hey guys, I have a small problem. I own a 58 F-100. Back in 2004 it was wrecked. I bought a 57 parts truck for the frame. In the meantime I've noticed my 58 doesn't have a VIN plate. The VIN on the frame was correct but the frame is no longer there. I have the VIN plate from the 57 but the yahoo I bought the 57 from kept the title folded in his wallet and now it it tearing at the folds and worn in spots. I have been in contact with a man out east who can make a plate for me. In fact, I found him here on this site. Datatags.com. To make a long story short, looking at the 57 VIN tag, there is the VIN, the color, rearend ratio, wheelbase, HP, and production code. I know or can get all of that info except the production code. Is there any way I can find out the production code based on the VIN number? The guy seems to do exceptional work and 85 dollars for a new VIN plate is a lot cheaper and easier than dealing with the DMV to get the title for the 57 switched to my name. He said as soon as he got my info and money he could send me the new plate in three days. Thanks for any help you can give me, John
Now there is a DATE Plate that has all that Intel that is Usually mounted on the inside of the Dispatch/Glove Box Door or Sometimes the DATA Plate was mounted on the Driverside Door Frame & there are the VIN Numbers that are stamped into the Frame around the Firewall or just aft of it & around somewhere on the Radiator Housing, so you might wish to look there as well.
I have neither of the plates. As I said in my previous post, the frame isn't original. The radiator support is new also. I was in an accident and had to replace those.
I'm not all that familar with 57's but the last digits of the vin should be the production code. I have a data plate with clear ohio title for a 1957 ford if you can't get this straightened out. Should read F10, engine code, then the 5th digit is the year 6th is assembly plant, then your production code. follow?
