I own an 87 F150 with the 4.9 litre engine. The problem I am having lately is that when I depress my clutch pedal quickly my RPM drops down to about 300 RPM and then a second later climbs up to about 700 RPM. I have also stalled out when going down a hill and depressing the clutch pedal. I also have been having alot of rough idle lately. The weird thing is that the truck runs fine with no lag or stuttering until I depress the clutch. Has anybody heard of or experienced this type of problem and if so what could be causing it?
Have you checked under the dash to see if there might be a wire that has come in contact with the clutch petal and has worn down the insulation on the wiring.
Thanks for the tip. I crawled under the dash and checked the wiring like you said. All the wires appear to be in good shape and the clutch isn't comming anywhere near any of them. After I did that I went and dug out my code reader and did a diagnostic. It came back with my TPS is below minimum voltage and my MAP sensor is out of range. Could this be the problem and can you adjust the TPS or do you have to replace it?
