HI I have a 99 1/2 PSD crew cab short bed with the 6 speed. The engine is completely stock. I would like to put on a 6'' lift and 36'' tires mabey the Mickey Thompson Baha claw radials. I was wondering what lift kit brand anyone would recomond. I was also wondering about your thauts on thoes tires or any other tires in that size. thank you for your help.
Installed a 6" Donahoe kit on my buddies '04 S.D. CC V-10, with 37" SSR's.
Installation was a bit tougher than I had expected. Looks and runs awesome on and offroad. SSR's are a handful in the deep snow.
Another buddy has those MTClaws in the form of 31's and they do really really well in the dirt, rocks and mud. Hate them in the sand though. Thought they would be the ticket in really soft loose sand, but they just kept getting him stuck.
i would go to Donahoe Racing too. expensive stuff, but their stuff is top of the line and ride quality cannot be beaten. as for the tires, the baja claw radials are very LOUD and they hum pretty aggressively. if you dont spend much time on road then they would be good for mud and snow looking at their tread pattern. for a good MT type tire with quiet road handling and good traction, look at the Toyo Open Country MT.
I run a set of 37/13.50/17 Baja Claw radials on my 02 2500HD and they are not loud at all, relatively speaking! They are killer in the mud, however I love the BFG mudders on my super duty and will buy another set. The claws are expensive!
Strokin_it you are so on the money. Those Toyo's are excellent rubber. Oh, Scottty, be prepared for some driveline vibration. Got the shim kit at the same time and took a couple weeks worth of tweaking to git 'er dialed in.
i got my shim kit right on the first time. for a 4" lift in the rear (probably what you would get for a 6" lift) i used about 1.25" of shim. i think it is one inch for a 4" lift (2" rear lift) and 1.5" for 8" (6" rear lift).
The kit advertised itself as everything you need for 4"-10" and it gave a guideline to follow as far as how many thick one's and thin one's per each lift. We ended up with the combo for an 8" and at that time ridded her of the vibrations mostly. Oh, Scotty I found out that while dialing in the vibration gig, it is easier to fine tune it with the factory rubber on. Maybe different for you, but with those aggressive tires, it was hard to tell if it was good vibrations or bad...
No, the blocks are tapered correctly for pinion angle. You will want to install a series of spacers on your third member to take some of the angle out of the drive line, thus minimizing vibrations while driving.
i just put a rough country 6" lift on mine with a set if 37x13.5x17 and they run like a dream, TOYO's are the only way to go. They are pretty much the best off road tire to run on the street, they run really quiet considering the size and they get great tread life. The lift is good too, the spring pack on the rough country is similar to the donahoe racing because it has a 10 pack of thinner springs instead of a 6 pack of thicker springs like pro comp and such which are alot rougher and sometimes sag, plus rough country warrentys their springs should they ever sag, pro comp has had issues with sagging in the front end especially with the diesel. But the donahoe racing is one of the best lifts, its just more expensive. but as far as tires go i would say toyo open country mt, if you look in any of the diesel mags and truckin mags 99% of the trucks run the toyos. I love them
DONT put a skyjacker kit on your truck, they make really soft springs and they will sag out.
Bin, can you post some pics or PM me some pics of that setup? ultimately i wanted Toyo Open Country MT because of the looks, on 325/60r20, but i opted for the Nitto TG's (in the quote)because they are what i have now and i dont really go off road. i love how they are silent. can you accurately describe the amount of noise compared to something and how much they were? the Terragrapplers are about $370 a piece in the size i want, and im thinking the Open country will be more. however if i have a good mud tire i might get some mud on them.
there is still time to decide. i want a MT looking tire that is quiet, and they seem to be the best, and most popular choice. youre right about most all of the show trucks running them.
I had a shop in Flagstaff, Az. install a procomp 6 inch, all spring lift. No problems, better ride than stock. I run 315s BFG M/Ts
The truck will definatly handle the stress of a lift. The weak parts on SDs are inherent and would still be weak points without a lift. (hubs, front wheel bearings, front brakes, etc, etc, etc)
its hard to describe but my buddy had a set of 35" BFG mudterrains and mine are much quieter and i have 37's. I dont know if that helps you much.
I would love to post some pics for you but I havent figured out how to do that yet.
And I paid 400 canadian a tire, but thats for 37x13.5x17. Your size should be cheaper. Look on ebay, I was going to buy them from there but they didnt have the size I wanted at the time I needed them. I think I saw a set around the size your looking for , for about $650/700 a set brand new.
if anyone knows how to post pics, i would love some help.
