i looked on the ford website and it shows that if its a dually the standard wheels are 17" and the standard for the single rear wheel are 18"...but i dont see why you couldnt be 17" rims on a single rear wheel...i have a 2006 f250 and the wheels are 17"
No problem with that, I have a guy that took his 17"' bf goodrich's off of his hummer brand new.
...again, it depends on the size of the tire. 17" is the size of the rim... There are many sized tires that could fit on there. I am not familiar with Hummer...so I don't know what size their stock tire is.
You could run any sized rim you wanted as long as the bolt/lug pattern and backspacing was correct. For example, Ford offers 20" rims as an option on some Superduties...but you won't fit a 40" tire on those 20" rims under a stock truck.

You are looking for 8x170mm pattern...its the same as your 18" rims...rim size has nothing to do with it.
Edit: I see you have an 05...they have larger brakes.. So you would be limited as to how small you can go with the rim. I'm pretty sure a 17" would fit, but don't hold me to it.

Well there are plenty of 05's and above running around with 4.5" of backspacing...heck, I'm going to be doing it myself.....but I think the backspacing on 05's and above are 5.25 or something like that.
Why don't you just tell us what kind of rim you are looking at?
