Mistake
While driving my 2003 E-350 V-10 with 4R100 transmission at about 15 MPH I accidently put the gear selector into park and of course the unhappy transmission made a ratcheting sound until I almost immediately put the truck back in gear.I don't know how I could have done this and am sick over what I may have done to the transmission.It seems fine so far but of course I'm worrying about down the road as there's probably not a worse thing you can do to an automatic transmission than this.I do have almost 4 years left on my ext warranty so I guess I'm hoping any damage I may have done will show itself before then.The vehicle has only 19K on it.

Theres a pin that holds it in park and that is the noise you heard. The pin trying to set in it's location. If the truck still holds in park then the pin is fine. If not then the pin broke.

x2, what you heard was just the parking paw skipping over teeth, if it doesnt rock excessivly in park now, i would say its fine. use the parking brake just incase, you never know if it could have chipped it, cracked or whatnot.
