I am a new and proud owner of a 99 F250 7.3L. I am amazed and confused at the same time on the performance upgrades. I am use to gaining 20 maybe 40 horsepower with bolt on parts for a gas, not 100 to 150 with a diesel. What advise do you have on getting the most bang for my buck.
Congrats and welcome to the site. First of all you may want to make this post in the 7.3l forum, they would be the experts. I am currently running an Edge Platinum with Attitude. It was a perfect fit for my truck (6.0l), but I have a manual tranny, which is one of the reasons I chose the Edge, I did not have to really worry about it eating up a torqshift tranny. I like that it has 5 levels that allow shift on the fly, that the Attitude allows me to choose several different displays. The Attitude Monitor has a display for MPH, which allows you to enter your tire size and get your MPH if you have larger than stock tires, which I do.
To research you really need to ask yourself what is the purpose of the tuner/programmer mod, or end result you are shooting for. For example, better towing, better fuel economy, sick power that will leave burnt rubber anywhere you go, etc....
I did the BullyDog Triple Threat "Try Before You Buy" and it also was a great fit on my 6.0l. There are tons of options, so don't rush into it, ask lots of questions.
One other suggestion and recommendation is ensure you have gauges or displays that allow you to monitor your truck's performance and protect it from damaging something.
I too own a 1999 7.3 with 344000 K on it. If you are going to keep it forever, leave it stock and maintain it well. It has enough power to pull you and anything you could hang on the back of that rig bone stock. It cost money to play, some of the 1999's were a little weaker than the 2000 plus trucks. good luck
I do not own a Diesel Super Duty, but a buddy of mine has a 02 Super Duty with an oil burner, put all the upogrades on it, and has put 3 Automatic Trans in it. All in less than 75,000 miles. So I would think you would want to be easy on it, as parts are only so strong. JMO
