Since the engine in my '65 is not the original 352, but a 360 from 1974, it has an accelerator cable that is frayed and sticking open at times. I am not familiar if there would be any difference between a '65 352 cable versus a '74 360 cable. It also seems that the only place this will be found is on a site like LMC trucks as one well experience local parts guy suggested looking there as he had nothing. So question #1 are the cables interchangable or not? Question #2, if they are interchangable have you ever found one at a local parts supplier?
Hi Mike, A FE is a FE regardless if it is a 352 or a 428. Cables are prefered over levers. Ford tried levers for a while but went back to cables and the 07 has a cable on it.
If you can find a replacement buy it, it should make your truck happy.
The truck specific suppliers like DC, Carolina Classics and LMC all carry the throttle cable. It is not cheap, but then it only fits our trucks for a couple years so demand doesn't generate a lot of sales to keep the price down. Best to buy a new one as you don't want to be stranded with a broken one!
Don't forget that you can also put a Lokar cable on there as well. It may not be period correct but it does a good job in the mean time. The Lokars can be cut to fit to each engine/truck combo.
First the 67 had no cable, it was a linkage. My son, Custemcab 66, replaced the cable on his 66 about 2weeks ago using bicycle brake cable, he says it is working good, I was glad to get my cable back for my 66 4x4. You may try contacting him on how to do it.
There is a place on the enter net but I can not remember what it was. I took the housing from a bicycle the cable is the same size, the only difference is the housing. The only peices that I kept from the original cable were the ends and the housing ends, to put it back in the truck.
Got a look at a 65-66 cable and then found that Carolina Classics had one in stock. So I ordered it last week and then one shows up on eBay of course. Oh well since I tend to replace everything I can with new stuff I might as well have a new one.
