i have a 88 f-150 4wd with the 300 I6 but it has some serious problems, if i leave the battery hooked up theres a draw on the battery i thought it was just something stupid like a loose ground but one day i walk into my garage and the fuel pump is running without the keys even in the ignition . i went all through the wiring harness and everything seemed good. could this be caused by the famous ignition switch ploblems on theses fords.?? any help would be apprecaited
To add to SubFord's comment, I'd replace the EEC relay first. It's the likely culprit. It's very rare for the EEC to energize the relay (through defect) when the truck is powered off. If the EEC fuel pump driving circuit is bad, usually it never goes on.
To add to frederic comment, I was thinking with the key on for some reason, sorry. It would not be the EEC Computer, as the EEC Relay would not be energized.
I want to thank frederic for catching this.
Also I think frederic meant to change the Fuel pump relay first not the EEC Relay as the EEC Relay would have no effect on this without the Fuel Pump Relay also being bad.
Here is a diagram of your Fuel system electrically.
