"mini" voltage regulator

I have seen , in the past, Ford alternators that have the regulator mounted to the back of the alternator. Can anyone tell me what they were used on, and if they will work on an alternator that originally used remote mounted reg?

What's your main goal here? Cleaning up the engine compartment? I do not know what particular year they used that type, but it's probably best to stay away from some obscure set-up and stay with more common types with internal regulators.

Thanks Dave, yes I would like to use it for a cleaner installation. The alt I have uses an external reg.

Do some searches in and around the different forums and on the net. The 3g swap is very popular.
