Alright. here's the deal... i'm wondering what happened to my gear selector gauge? (for lack of better words)... as in, park is in the middle, reverse is near neutral.. neutral is in first.. and ya...
it's a 99 b3000 2 wheel drive.. anyway... i tried adjusting the shifter positioning rod where the shifter cable links up to the tranny.. but that didn't seem to do anything...
Well here is an idea, I beleive that the selector gauge is controlled by a thin cable, it could be stretched or misadjusted. Not sure how to get to it on your truck but you would have to check it out. It could be a simple fix like just having to replace that lttle cable.

I didn't realize it, but i took the whole underdash apart and saw what you were talkin about... and yea, the plastic retainer clip was broken..
