Ok, I brought the truck in to the dealer service dept. for a CEL on Wednesday. Last month had a CEL and they replaced the EGR valve (it was connected). This time, they told me they were replacing the EGR again, and the turbo. Didn't specifiy why, but some of the symptoms I was experiencing sounds link the vanes had stuck.
My wife just picked the truck up, got 1/2 down the road, and the light came back on. She brought it back, and the service writer told her they were calling Ford, as the code was the same.
Someone please tell me that I made the right decision getting a Ford, and not a Chevy. I have never been devoutly loyal to any particular brand, but my last pickup was a '93 Chevy 1/2 that had over 147,000 miles on it when I sold it, and I still see it around town every now and then.
I am just venting here, as I am due to take the family camping on Sunday for a week, and my wife's Honda won't tow our 26' travel trailer.
I'm on my 3rd turbo with less than 16k miles. There is a new updated turbo and the part number ends with BARM. The turbo prior to that ended with AARM. Check your work order for part number. Part of my problem is that I don't put many miles on my truck. When the 6.0 sits the turbo vanes stick/seize/rust. The new turbo has a relief machined into the housing by the vanes so they can't stick/seize/rust to the housing. Hope they fix it, good luck. '04 part # I think should be 4C3Z-6K682-BARM
OK. I just picked the truck up from the dealer. The tech still couldn't find the cause of the codes. I got home ok, with no CEL. The turbo they installed is p/n 3C3Z*6K682*BARM. I spoke with the tech, and he told me this was the improved turbo. The codes that keep getting thrown are P0401, P2269 and P132B. The tech said he has been on the phone with Ford several times, but has been unable to find the cause.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem with the similar codes? I am leaving for N.C. in the a.m. and if these things surface again, I will try a dealer down there if I need too.
P132B was the code when the CEL came on & when Ford replaced my 2nd turbo. P0401 is EGR relater & P2269 is water in fuel. EGR & turbo go hand in hand but not water in fuel. Strange that the 3 came up together.
