Hey guys,
I installed a pertronix in my '64 223 a short time ago (please see earlier posts) and I thougth I had things working OK. Well the more I drive around, the rougher the engine seems to get. Today I decided to see if I could figure things out, but I came up short. The truck starts up just fine and idles just fine with no skipping or anything. The problem is the engine is just not running smooth - it just lumbers along with a steady bub-bub-bub-bub-bub-bub and the engine shakes along with it! It used to run a lot smoother. I would really appreciate any suggestions - other than for me to stay out from under the hood of my truck!
Thanks
Paul
I think I finally found the problem. As suggested in a previous post by William, I took a good long look at my coil. I wasn't too concerned about the coil since I just put it in not even a year ago. yet all of my testing pointed to a timing ignition/problem. To make a long painful story short, I discovered that my coil does not have enough resistance for the pertronix! I just ordered the flame-thrower coil which provides resistance internally. In the mean time, I'm off to pick up a ballast resistor to hook up to my exhisting coil to see if that fixes the problem. Please post back if anyone has anything to add.
Thanks,
Paul
The truck is fixed!! Although once I got it runnig pretty steady, I discovered that the valve lash needed a bit more tweeking. I adjusted that this morning and everything is running strong and smooth...AT LAST!!!
Thanks for all the help folks!
Paul
