2003 SD 250

Hello All,

I stumpled on this site about a week ago, seems like there are alot of good people here with alot of great information. I am a first time, soon to be ford buyer. I would like some of your opions on the truck , and options I am considering. Bear with me I'm sure all these questions have been asked before. I will mainly use this vehicle for traveling back and forth to work (15-20 miles), 30% highway, 50% city, 20% camping with and without a light slide in camper... if there is one. Average altidute is around 6000 feet. Also my garage clearance is 83 by 20' (Sure would like a SCrew).

2003 F250 SC, SB, Lariat ( Lariat cost is just over a grand, why not)

V10, Auto

4.30 Gears

Tires & Wheels LT265/75R16E Standard, Considering 255/85/16 to change gear ratio to(4.12 hopefully), or 295/75/16 (4.07)to make up for fuel consumption with no lift; if they will fit on the standard 16X7 wheel. Any recommendations for 16X8 wheels, and tires w/o lift?

Camper Package (Will this Package level Truck? if not what is needed).
Class V Trailer Hitch (Is there a better after market Hitch?)

SOF

40/20/40 Bench Seat

Trailer Tow Mirrors w/Power Glass

In Dash 6CD Changer, (or standard with my own changes as needed)

Reverse Vehicle Aid Sensor, (Any opions here)

FX$ Package, (proberly not, I think the Bilsteins would due)

Skid Plates, (Are there better options on the aftermarket, or would I need them at all?)

Adjustible Pedals, (Can due without)

Also, dealer wants to charge for some kind of paint protection (UV)for high altidute sun protection (whatever!); can't see paying for that, never heard of this, thought that was what insurance was for?

Thanks in advance, any help or comments would be appreciated.

If your going to be using this truck mainly for commuting, they why such steep gears (4.10)? Unless you really want to add some tall tires, sound like you can get away with 3.73 IMHO.

Camper package: Camper Package $160.00
- Heavy Service Front Springs
- Rear Stabilizer Bar (SRW)
- Slide-In Camper Certification

The theory is that and over the cab camper will shift the center of gravity to the front some, so the springs on the front are beefed up. The slide in camper cert is for insurance coverage. If your looking to level the truck, then look into some after market air bladder type of setup.

What's that?

And miss out on the 6 way power seats?

Nice.

That the one I'm getting when I buy my next truck.

That's what rear view mirrors are for. In my option, it's just another piece of high tech hardware that can crap out on you and cost an arm and a leg to fix.

Don't the skip plates come with the FX4 option? Or can you get them separate? I would get them myself.

Yep

It's a truck.

Sounds like a great truck, First of all the 40/20/40 I don't believe is a bench seat although sure does resemble one, this will have the power seats though. The Off road package will include skid plates as well as side steps which are nice. The reverse sensing system is nice but will be very expensive to repair. The Camper Package is a good thing to have and is usually included (although your payin for it) on this type of truck. If you have any questions email me at fordkicksass69(No Email Addresses In Posts!) and I should be able to answer them. Thanks

It's called 'extra profit' and don't you dare pay it. 'Paint Sealant' is little more then wax and can actually do harm to your factory clearcoat finish, tell him that if they 'strip it off', apply a qaulity wax, and throw in a years worth of free oil changes you'll still buy the truck.:-X12
