hey everyone,
my dad and i have built quite a few 73-96 f series trucks, but we just got a new project, a 63 f100 unibody shortbox. the truck is "rough" but fixable, but we like a challenge.the truck is currently a 240 six and a 3 speed manual, but we have plans to remove those. i have a few questions, hoping you could help me out.
first off, the gas tank is gone and we're thinking of relocationg it to the bed... any issues with that?
secondly, we have a 92 f1502wd chassis, were thinking or shortening the frame, and swapping in the injected 300six with a 5 speed, do u guys think that its more toruble that what its worth? (btw, we're building this into a reliable gas friendly cruiser)
if we dont swap frames, we were thinking of doing axle flips front and rear. anyone done it before?
and lastly, is there any specific issues that i should look for in this project?
There are a few posts and an article that covers the fuel tank swap. Use the search function to find them. The chassis from the 92 will need a lot of fab work to make the uni fit. I would suggest checking all the diamentions of both frame mounting points to see if it even in the ball park. The 92 suspension will make the truck really driver friendly since you have all the newer parts at your finger tips. However, the task of doing the fab work may take all the fun out of it.
There is no current axle flip for the front. CPP makes a tubular drop axle and another company will stretch your original for the same price. Fatman fab is in the process of making a bolt on rear axle flip kit. If you go in their tech articles you'll find the directions for it. The catalog still has it listed as coming soon. So you may want to call them to see.
thanks for the info. my dad and i are no strangers to a lot of fabbing, so we aint scared. also i do have one more question: soes the hood fenders grille and doors swap off a 65?
