rear main seal

how hard is it to replace the rear main seal on 7.3 L with the tranny out (at shop being rebuilt)?

Taking the tranny out is the gardest part. This is from the repair manual.

Removal
  1. Remove the flywheel (6375).
  1. Remove the five crankshaft rear oil seal retaining bolts and the crankshaft rear oil seal (6701).


  1. Clean the crankshaft rear oil seal sealing surfaces.
  1. Inspect the crankshaft rear oil seal for damage. Replace as necessary.
  1. If equipped with a crankshaft wear sleeve, use Crankshaft Rear Wear Ring Remover T94T-6701-AH1, Forcing Screw T84T-7025-B, Remover Tube T77J-7025-B and Crankshaft Rear Wear Ring Remover Sleeve T94T-6701-AH2 to remove the crankshaft rear wear sleeve.

Installation
  1. Apply Silicone Rubber F5TZ-19G204-AB or equivalent meeting Navistar specification D15-5012 Type 2 to the rear oil seal retaining ring and five crankshaft rear oil seal retaining bolts.
  1. Using Crankshaft Seal Replacer T94T-6701-AH3, Crankshaft Seal Replacer T94T-AH4 and if wear sleeve is to be replaced, Driver Sleeve T79T-6316-A4 and guide pins (part of T79T-6316-A), install crankshaft wear ring and crankshaft rear oil seal.

  1. Install the five crankshaft rear oil seal retaining bolts.
  2. Remove installation tools.
  1. Install the flywheel.
