distributor question

I have heard that useing a stock distributor on my 351w was somehow set up to work with the egr? somehow it affects how it advances or is curved or something. Is this true? never heard that before. Also i have a msd ignition box and coil and thinking of getting a msd distributor, would it be better to go mechanical advance or vacuum? the truck has no emissions stuff on it, doesnt need any.

For street use I would go with vacuum advance.

Even a distributor with vacuum advance has mechanical advance to set the main timing curve. The vacuum advance helps with driveability and emissions...
