Smile 300 six swap with 302 windsor

Hey ppl
New to your forum and was looking for any info you may be able to give me on swapping my tired old 300 6cyl and 4 spd manual with a 302 windsor and c6 auto.
Truck is a 1986 2wd F100. What sort of mods will be needed as far as tailshaft and engine mounts etc.

Thanx for any help.

Adam

I think you mean 351 windsor, And you're gonna need to change the engine mounts, Not sure about the tranny situation, thought of course the shifter is gonna be different.

Realize that if you really mean 302 then you're going to be stepping down in power, as the 300 makes more torque, (a lot more). The 300 also takes a long time to get "tired"; like 300k miles.

302s and 300s make about the same torque. 250 lb ft, give or take depending on the year. 300s make it at lower rpm than 302s.

You might consider finding a 302/AOD combo from any number of Fords.

You are looking at the mounts and probably a driveshaft change. Shifter can be handled with aftermarket items if you wish. Or you can put a Mustang shifter in like many have. There are mods available for the AOD to toughen it up, widen the ratios etc.

A C6 is overkill unless you are beefing the engine.

A 302 shares the bell houseing size with the 300, so you could just keep your 4 gear to simplify things. You will have enough of a project with just the motor. Think accessories, radiator...

Your '86 an EFI? What about smog, you gotta pass visual inspection as well as at the pipe?

thanx 4 info guys realised after I posted I had written 86 f100 but is really 82.
Only reason I wanted to swap to 302 windsor is because the old 300 is full of oil leaks and getting a bit tired and I have a rebuilt 02 windsor sitting here with big cam ported polished heads 650 holley and all the rest as well as a c6 and radiator etc to boot but am now considering keeping the old manual as you suggested to simplify things
Only problem I have is time as this is a work car and I would like to try and get everything I need before I attempt the swap including any brackets for the a/c so it won't be off the road for long.
Any info at all is muchly appreciated and I thank all those who replied

The case of "I already have the engine...." OK, probably the thing to do is find a donor truck to get the accesory drives etc off of, and to scope out other parts you will need, like motor mounts, throttle linkage, etc.

Not sure what the chances of finding one in a junk yard are, but that seems to be what others do.

well

I did a burned up c6 to manual swap in an 82 with a 302. The donar truck had a 300 in it so i was in hope that things would work on it as well. I found that the transmission and linkage bolted up fine but the problem was the flywheel that wasn't balanced right and that my drive shaft was not long enough because the truck was a 4x4 and i was puting in an 2x4 trans in it to just get it back on the road. The drive shaft from the doner truck was not long enough so the truck is now seating till i get the money for the right flywheel and a 4x4 trans so i can hopefully use the stock drive shafts
i decided not to blow any more money on the wrong things and do it right the first time. Its the best thing for a technician and a tight wad like myself.
