97 idle fluctuation sensor check

i've posted before about my 97' that has an idle problem that is INTERMITENT..and basically to make a long story short. idle fluctuates as it wish's and it's the same amount as it would if you turned an a/c on or loaded the alternator. APPROX. 1-150 rpms. again--problem is intermitent. i posted abotu it before and people told me the icp sensor was probably bad. well before i go buy a new one and install it. is ther a way to be sure that is it? any way i can ohm it out or check it any how? OR does anybody have any other suggestions as to what could be at fault?

thanks again

you can unlug the icp sensor. or did they mean the ipr?

your truck will run with a unplugged icp it sets it to default mode.
have you invested in a hpx line?

haven't unplugged the icp sensor yet....but im waiting to do so when it's bad enough. isnt' bad enough..just sorta comes and goes and does that when it wants. but the ipr..isn't that in the front of the engine in the valley(pain to change if thats the problem) but people were telling me unplug the icp to set it to default and if it fixs the problem unplugging icp.....icp sensor is bad. what is hpx line? what do i use it for? how will it help?

thanks for all info

you can see the steel braided line to fitting that attaches to head it also runs to the other side.

my truck idles perfectly smooth no fluctuation. it equalizes the pressure in both heads. the icp is getting a reading from both in a sense this way. instead of just one side. can be bought from tymar for around 30 bucks. try unplugging the icp. i drove with mine unplugged for a while doesnt hurt a thing.

thats the old boost T before the stage 1's.

allrigh tnow im starting to understand. FIRST..yes mine does have those oil lines going to both heads off the pump ( i assumed they were stock) but anyways YES...i've got those lines. and second...when this problem occurs again, unplug the icp sensor and if it smooths out. the icp is at fault. correct? im only hessitant because when the problem occurs, it's so little of a difference most the time and not there for very long, but it's STILL there. are there any other possibilities if the icp sensor turns out to be ok(i unplug the sensor when problem is occuring, and the problem is still present). any other possible causes?

The line he is referring to goes from head to head in addition to the stock lines.

Here's a link to a stainless steel version:

so i had the probelm today while idling in the drivewya-..went under hook and unplugged the icp sensor and the engines idle kinds stumbled and then smoothed out and was fine. this means the sensor is at fault..right? i'll try it a few more times just to make sure.
