I have a '75 F250 4x4 that needs a new rear bumper. The bumper I took off was off a mid-80's Ford with a 37.5" frame rail width. Of course, my truck only has 34" frame rail width at the rear. The PO welded some shims to make it work.
If I was to do it the correct way and shave off the shims to install the correct bumper, what rear bumper brackets could I use? I found some nice 77.5-79 bumper brackets in the junkyard, but nothing older than that. Did Ford change the design in bumper brackets when the frame was changed? In essence, can I use the 77.5-79 rear bumper brackets to mount a reproduction correct '75 bumper to my 34" frame rails on my truck? Thanks for your help, Mike
Nope. Your gonna need some brackets for a 34" Frame. You can take a set from the newer model and modify them to fit. Should be pretty simple in theory..
I have two high boys with rear step bumpers taken off other fords on both I just removed the brackets switched from side to side and they bolted rightup
Thanks for the help guys. I took another look at my truck and will just reuse the step bumper that I do have. The truck is being painted and I'll just have the bumper painted to match the truck. Thanks for your time!!
