OK i have a '79 SB I am fixing up. The cab is rust free except it has a few large dents in it. One is on the B pillar behind the pass. door and it has crushed the drip rail as well.
I just picked up a '78 long box with a dent free cab but it has rusty floor boards (not too bad but it is through in a few spots)
I know without pics its hard to compare but what to body shop prefer to fix? dents or rust?
If I used the rusty cab I will have to do a cab swap which I'm not totally looking forward too.
i would think they would like dents more. they can just pop most of it, then fill over it. rust to be fixed right has to be cut out, welded in, bent to shape welded more then filled in.
A good bodyman can work magic with a hammer and dolly in a very short time.
On the other hand, how rusty is rusty? Mostly surface rust with some pits that go all the way through, or gaping holes covered in old license plates and plywood, plus badly rusted corners and rockers etc?
