My dad's about to get a 01 F-150 4x4 w/5.4, and one of the first things I'm going to get him to do is pipes. He doesn't want to loud, but free flowing.
How restrictive do you guys thing the cat.s would be on this truck, and if I took them off, would the sensors go crazy or would it be ok?
Also, I personally like glasspacks, but where or what kind of muffler could I get to be a good flowing, but cheap, and mild/loud muffler? 24" backwards glasspacks?
Also, what do you guys think of X or H pipe connections on true duals?
Ok, how many cats do the trucks have? I heard 4, but I only noticed 2.
Either way, I'll prolly keep 2, and put about 2.5" duals with a x pipe and some small magnaflow type mufflers.
Should sound and flow great.
I just gutted mine...take a hammer and lightly tap the outside of the cat. This will loosen the substrate inside, then just vacuum it out. This way you don't need to add a section of pipe or anything. And it still looks like you have the precats, so you'll never get into trouble for tampering with the cats.
In CA, they have a visual inpection so it's important to me that it looks like the cats are there.
Were I'm at, I get my local muffler shop to do the work, and he also does inspections, and tells everyone IF you have trouble inspecting it, I'll do it.
But either way, I could go with a truck with straight pipes, racking my pipes in the parking lot, and pull up, and they'd still inspect me, without even asking.
The 4 stock cats flow great....really, i was amazed when I saw them when I got mine taken off and put 2 high flows on. The ONLY thing the cats REALLY affect is sound, WOW, i gained a ton of decibals by switching to high flows, I love it to
