Hey guys,
I just realized my brake lights either don't work or I do'nt have them. I am not about to drive down the road without brake lights because that sounds kinda dangerous. Did my truck not come with them or are they just not working? How do you check what's wrong? Thanks guys. What about back up lights too? thanks again!
They all came with them. Does yours have the single style master cyl. on it. The round one with a twist on cap? If so, the brake light switch is on the front of it and works off of system pressure. I'd start there.
Try checking your light bulbs, do you have tail lights when you turn your headlights on. If so your getting voltage, and the switch may need adjusting. Or the fuse could be blown. If your unsure how to do any of this, take your truck to a certified mechanic.
Thanks guys,
I'll check that stuff tomorrow to see if I can get it sorted out. It is the single master cylinder with the screw on lid by the way. Thanks again for the reply's!
>also the rear brake lights wont come on unless the key is in

I've never heard that one before!

they work on a dual filament bulb. check your turn signals, if they work, then it's the switch. located on master cylinder front, hydraulic, costs about five bucks.
My 66 brake lights only work with the key in the on or run position. This is the way all 66 were wired from the factory.I think 65 was that way too.Earlier years had the brake lights come on with the key off

For a quick check take the two wires off the brake light switch and connect a jumper wire between them.If you have brake lights now your switch is bad!
Funny you should ask about backup lights. I just got mine wired this evening. Your truck did not come with backup lights. But they are easy to install with all factory componets. The tailights from a 72 back will fit right in the factory holes. When you remove the light, get EVERYTHING.^The backup lamps use a seperate bulb and you need all the fixture to upgrade.. You also need to leave as much wire as you can. Install the lights and run a hotwire up to the front of the truck.
Also check for a factory backup light switch on the 72 style truck. It clamps around the lower part of your column. It is activated when your shift arm hits it when you shift to reverse. Just remove and retain all parts and reinstall it on your truck. Run the wires and be sure to use a fuse. My taillights with back up light fixtures came from a 1970 ford van.I used a seperate lighted switch until I can find a factory 1 at the junkyard..........mack
