C4 to AOD?

Hey guys, I have a '79 LTD that needs a trans replacement. It currently has a c4 in it, and I I have an AOD out of a '91 mercury grand marquis (going to get scrapped probably). What I want to know is can I use the same cable from the '91 on the '79 or do I need to get a new cable from and 82 or 83?

The swap will be easy, bolt wise. The tough part will be the TV cable adjustment. I assume your '79 has a carb on it so you will need to fab something to adapt the TV cable from the '91 to the '79's carb. Or you can buy a LOKAR or similar type cable which is what I did. I am using a Holley carb so I ended up making an adapter bracket for the trans side that equilized the carb linkage to the trans linkage. I checked the pressures after and all seems well so far. If you don't sync up the carb and tranny via the TV cable, the tranny will fry in short order. Lots of good info on how to do this on the web.

Yes indeed there is. We're toying with the idea of reworking the C4's kickdown rod to act as the TV cable... In theory if the throw is right it should work just fine.
