vapor locking

Can any body help i have a 79 ford f150 4x4 that i have converted over from a 351m to a 429 and have had problems with it vapor locking. I have tried every thing i can think of even putting a electric fuel pump on it in the frame rail. I also put spacer plate between the intake manifold and carb to raise it up so the throttle linkages would clear. this only happens when it is hot and in the summer. the winter i do not have problems with it. I know it is somthing simple i even tried running with the fuel cap off no luck.

Have you re-routed your fuel lines away from the heat sources?

The electric fuel pump usually does the job.

Describe the symptoms. Does it die while driving? Or does it fail to restart when hot?

Is the carb spacer metal?

NO, thier is a section of rubber hose from the frame rail to the motor and then another to the carb where the inline fuel filter is.

The spacer is plastic It never dies it just looses power until i let out of it and it ideals fine but when i get back into it, it falls on its face, let the truck cool off for an hour and it runs fine until it heats up again.

How long is this rubber hose ?

Furl line should be steel.

Rubber is a retainer of heat and can cause warmer fuel.

The idea behind fuel is to keep it cold

A vapor lock condition is when the fuel actually vaporizes in the fuel line or in the float bowl. When it happens, the engine usually just dies and won't restart.

What you are describing sounds more like a dying ignition module or. The componant gets hot and fails to put out adequate spark to keep the engine running under load.

I had a similar problem with my '73 F100 390. Would run fine, until 15 miles down the road - acted like it was running out of fuel, would idle fine but wouldn't rev. So I replaced the fuel pump with no change. Then I replaced all the rubber hose and found a 6" piece of rubber under the cab that had a crack in it. When it got hot, it would suck air - only supplying the carb with enough to idle. Replaced ALL the hoses and all is good.
