I have one battery under the hood and one underneath on the frame behind the cab. I would like to move the other one to the back. Can I use welding cable for battery cables, or should I find somebody who makes the real thing. If I can, what size? Thanks for any help.
You can also try your local tractor company or big truck garage. I know that the tractor companies have battery cable (black & red) by the roll. They make up battery cables to the lenght needed and have a variety of ends they can crimp on. Around here the battery cable is cheaper than welding cable, due to welding cable being fine strand and battery cables being course strand.
Thanks for the replies.
I have an E series so it is a little hard to tell where everything goes, but it looks like it is battery to battery (pos to pos) and then to the engine. Does one negative go to the frame and one to the engine?
Not sure about the van, but mine (f350) goes (neg to neg, battery) then to engine block. There is another ground strap that goes from block to the chassis.
Moving the battery will give me a little more room under the hood. I can then change the intake, as well as having room to do normal service and repairs. Right now I can't do anything without first pulling out the intake. With an E series you can't get to anything or even see most of it. It will run better with a different air filter. I am also adding a hood scoop and something underneath to pull in air.
