Gear change not smooth
I have 2 questions about my 2000 Explorer XLT (6 cyl, 4litre), automatic transmission. 126k miles on the clock.
(1) When taking off from a stop light, for example, the gear changes are not smooth. You can hear the engine rev before it finally 'finds' the next gear.
(2) The parking brake (emergency brake) light on the dash stays on even after you release the brake. A fluid problem maybe?
Any help with either of the above is much appreciated.
thanks,
Declan

The shifting "flare" you're experiencing is a little more complicated. It seems to be common on the 5R55E transmission (mine did it at about 42K miles). Ford has a separator plate and blow-off valve kit, which along with a Superior shift kit, cured my flare. Installation took most of a Saturday afternoon.
I can look up the part numbers if you wish, since mine is also a 2000.
