Both units in the above links are the Amsoils dual remote units that are suppose to passively take a small amount of the pressurized oil and run it thru an extreme filtration unit to return oil filtered at the 3 micron level. As I have pointed out here before, when installing ANY by-pass filtration unit, single or dual, ALWAYS install a 35 lbs check valve that will not let the by-pass unit have any oil for filtration until the pressure exceeds 35 lbs. To give you a scenario, an FE engine will generally idle at 12-15 lbs oil pressure. Do you think it is a good idea to have the by-pass unit using some of the oil pressure for filtration? I would hope not. Obviously, the Subaru did not have a check valve and the driver most likely, being a woman, was driving/idling around town where the engine was starved for oil. The PSD had a spike in the analysis and the owner was wise to get analysis as is prudent when using any by-pass unit. The link never discusses the type of oil used. My belief is that there was an issue with the oil rather than the by-pass unit. But the driver of the PSD didn't give many driving habit details so that is speculation on my part. But for those that have ANY brand by-pass, if you don't have a check valve and you idle a lot, expect accelerated wear or possible engine failure.
Good find, Bob. Folks with the by-pass units need to be aware that they are not a magical piece of equipment and problems can abound.

I have a Motor Guard TP oil bypass filter installed on my 7.3 PSD. I was reading about low oil pressure at idle and installing a check valve. Does anyone know what the oil pressure is on the PSD at idle and do you think I should have a check valve?. If so, where would I find a 30 psi check valve?. I did some searching and couldn't find anything. Thanks!

By-pass
I have used the Amsoil By-Pass filter on my 7.3 for many years without any trouble from it. This unit has a spring loaded by-pass valve built in it. When the engine is at idle, very little or no oil is being diverted to the by-pass side of the filter. When running at normal engine speed, this By-pass system will only divert 10% of the full oil flow to the by-pass side. The engine can not starve for oil.
