I have a 1975 Ford f-100. Should i stay with the Married NP 203 that came in it or change to the Divorced NP 205. Take note I have everything to make the change to a Divorced NP 205. Let me know what you guys think. Really cant make up my mind.
Do you already have a 2 wheel drive trans, the crossmember that went with the 205 and all the driveshafts? Keep in mind that the rear d-shaft will only work if the 2 trucks have the same wheelbase(long bed, short bed, std cab...)

A Regular 2 wheel drive tranny will not work because the tail shaft is too long. But I do have the right tranny, crossmembers, drive shafts, and etc. I have every thing to rebuild 5 four wheel drives from the ground up.
What do you use your F100 truck for? Will going to a NP205 give you any real benefit?
Is your NP203 a full-time unit or part-time unit? That might be the only benefit...going to a part-time unit.
IMHO: I would NOT go to a divorsed NP205 unless there is a reason for it. Or if you are just bored...
If your NP203 is running strong...then no need to replace. Both the NP203 and NP205 have the same gear ratios ( 1.96:1 Lo and 1:1 high)...so no benefit there.
I prefer the married NP205 over the divorsed...but that is just me thinking out loud.
Good luck either way...

If you are swapping the divorced 205 into a truck that didn't have one you are able to move the t-case back to accomodate for ANY trans you would want to put in.
The transfer case that I have now is a NP203 Married Full Time. I want to get away from the Full time. I know there is a kit to make it part time. But the NP205 is just much stronger.I thought about just buying the lockout kit for the 203 until I can find a Married 205. Or am I thinking way wrong.
biz4two, just to say the 205 has a low range of 1.96 like you said, but the 203 has a low of 2.01. I know that isn't much of a difference, surly not enough to notice, but just to say.
Either way, take the 203 out. I hate the thing to tell the truth.
Mine was converted to part time, and I've had nothing but trouble with it anyway. I've droped that 300lbs thing 3 times, and about to make it a 4th, but this time it's not going back in.
I'd have to say, a divorced 205 wouldn't be my way to go.
I went to the junkyard and got a married 205 for $35, and gave it to my offroad shop and got them to put in a bearing a seal kit for $100, but it didn't really need it. It felt real tight as it was, and if you want to just put fresh oil in, that'd work fine as long as it feels good.
i have to say also, if you have that many parts laying around, just make a trade to someone for the married 205. unless your going way big lift, i dont really feel its worth it to go through the trouble of the conversion.

Thank You for the correction. After several websites searching...they all posted the wrong info. I thought it was fishy too...

I don't know why they have that small of a difference, it's surely not like it makes a difference, but I have both t cases, and read that on their info/spec plate.
biz4two has some very interesting points. Will the type of off roading you are planning to do warrant the use of a 205? The 203 is not all that bad. PLease don't get me wrong, I am all for doing stuff just to do stuff. Since you have a great deal of parts, have you considered running both cases? Most kits for doublers are much easier than most people think, and you have 80% of the stuff already. Throw away the parts of the 203 that make it unpopular (the chain section / back half), and bolt up the 205 to it. By all means, if you are looking for something to do, and can't decide between the 203, or the 205, do both. Just a thought.
This would be a great idea if only the doubler kit wouldn't cost $770. And the 2 stick Shifter for the Doubler wouldn't cost $170.
And if you want the 3 stick, it's $265.
So the cheapest you could do this would be $940. ouch!
I've thought about doing this, but the very first time I saw a price of $250(not knowing that was only for the shifter), but later found out it would cost a lot more.
