No theres no fluid in between the tranny/transfer case. At least when I pulled my tranny/transfer case there wasnt. If you tip the trans back far enough you will probably get some in there.
Drain the transfer case and then take it off. Then drain the tranny and pull it too. Don't pull them at the same time as that could probably be rough unless you have more than one helping hand.
There is NO fluid in between the two. Atleast there shouldn't be. On my T-18 there is the hole that oil runs through to keep the output bearing oiled. On the extension housing there is the gally it runs through and then back to the transmission.
Like stated before drain the transfer case. Drop it. Start with the bottom bolts, then to the top. It's not that heavy. I just held mine up there (BW1345) and let it drop slowly. Then remove the extension housing. And then drain the Transmission and drop it with a jack. That will be heavy.
Just finished putting a clutch in a 1993 F-250 with a 7.3L IDI diesel and a ZF-5. Flywheel was heavy, clutch was heavy, Tranny tried to kill the three of us, yup, all really heavy. More to the point, again, there is usually no fluid in the coupler housing.

My buddy and I changed out the clutch on his 2wd F-250 88 with the 444 IDI and it took us about 3 hours. It took a third person to lower the tranny and then to lift er back up. I pulled the pressure plate and put the new clutch disk in. That dual mass flywheel is fun isnt it? haha.
Nevertheless, I think everybody here as added to my reply quite nicely. Thanks guys for clarifying things because I was a little uncertain about the fluid between the tranny/transfer case. I appreciate it!
