Single stage when sprayed will give you your colour and gloss and protection all in one application. Two stage has a base coat which is sprayed first and gives you your colour but no gloss or protection. The clear is then sprayed over the basecoat .

If you review the archives you will find that
people have used every concievable type of
paint with generally good results.

And to quote and old post "Availability and
price trump everything else"

Find a good paint supplier and tell them:
1. Truck repaint
2. Level of experience
3. Budget of _____ (fill in blank)
Then do the hardest thing in the world..follow
their advise.

Paints will vary in spray characteristics, gloss,
hardness, weather resistance, gasoline resistance,
adhesion, polution resistance, drying time and
often specific colors via specific paints.

Paint formulations are often changed because of
environmental issues or even field experience.

Good Luck!
