Question Performance Mods for 5.0L??

I am looking for some under the hood performance mods for my 2000 X eddie bauer 5.0 and after lots of searching, noticed there are not many out there. I am curious to know if the mods from the 95-99 5.0 mustangs are compatible?

Thanks,
George Pyles

There are a lot of mods you can do - just depends on the dollar sign you want to attach. How much power are you looking for and what is the budget you are looking at?

If you mean internals, which is where you will gain the 80+ horsepower you want, sure they are.

The 96-later Mustangs did NOT use a 5.0L.

Yes, 95 was the last year for the 5.0's in the stangs. After that they went to the 4.6. Its the reason the 5.0's were used in the Explorers - they were surplus GT engines that Ford still had. They had minor adjustments done, but are basic GT engines.

To get to 300+ without supercharging, you are going to need a total internal redo - cam, pistons, rods, rockers, springs, etc, etc. You will also need new heads, different headers, etc.

I don't know how much you are looking to spend or how involved in changing everything you want to go, but you might want to look at just getting a new smallblock from Ford:

If you are looking to do all the work yourself, you will basically have to pul the engine anyway. I would suggest looking at doing a 331 stroker if you are going to go that far - or even a 347.

For headers, I would recommend Torque Monster Headers. FMS makes a header for Explorers, but now that I have the TM's, I wouldn't go back to the FMS's any day of the week. A little more money, but wel worth the price difference.
