Well I finally got some advice from another A/C forum that appears to have came from some one that is knowledgeable. I have, for several years, tried to get the dealer installed air in my 77 to cool down the cab. It has never cooled well enough to be comfortable on a hot (100+) day. The guy I was talking to described my unit in detail. He said if this is the one I have to forget it and get an underdash unit. He stated that the design of these units were poor and inefficient.
Does anybody have any first hand knowledge of these underdash units, or any recommendations as to which one to get? Any help would be appreciated. -Gary
I have an original unit that will not cool below 60. I replaced EVERYTHING ac related and converted to R134!!!! I am thinking about going with a Vintage Air system that is used to retrofit into hot rods that did not have AC. Do you think the underdash is better? I don't really want the look of underdash.

This is why I posted the thread. I was hoping to get some interest going and get some advice.
The question is, do you have factory or dealer installed air? The guys I talk to that have factory air report icicles coming out of their vents. The ones with dealer air all complain about their units being heaters. I have talked to the guys on other A/C forum web sites and they tell me that there is no hope with the dealer air and to go to the underdash units.
I have found several underdash units on the Internet for around $200.00. I am just a little skeptical about taking advice from some of these guys because they might be the ones selling these units. That is why I poised the question here.
Thanks Yogis1097. A question on your vinage air system? I have factory air that does not cool. Did you hook your vintage air system to the existing factory air vents or did you use the ones they provide? Did you remove the old evaportor box?
I did quite a bit of research and went w/ a Vintage Air system and I have no regrets. It's great quality and cools my cab quick.
Thanks Yogis, this was what I was looking for, an unbiased opinion. I just have a hard time taking the word of someone that is trying to sell you something. -Gary
I used the complete kit for the '66-'77 Broncos. My F-100 never had factory air so I used the thin under the dash vents that came with the unit. I had to go to a shop to get the hose ends crimped and get the unit charged. Other than that with the help of my Dad we did it in a couple of afternoons. I live in FL and was dying before I got the unit. My advice is to do your research, there are LOTS of different units out there. Good Luck guys!
