I have a 92 F350 with a tired engine and I found a 89 that was recently rebuilt in a wrecked truck. Are there any differences in or on the block besides the pully system. Also I have the chance to change my problem prone E40D to a 5 speed (I can get the transfercase also) out of the same truck. Will there be any problems that are involved in the swap. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks topgunn@gorge.net
Should be a pretty straight forward swap for the most part.
Watch out there "may" be some issues with the clutch pedal, brakets, and master clutch cylinder as the 89 is a different body style than the 92. You can always get this stuff from another 92 if the 89 stuff should not fit.
ZF 5 will have an integral bell housing just like the E4OD does, bolts right up.
The same transfer case will fit both the ZF 5 and the E4OD.
Get the pedals, clutch master cylinder and flywheel off the manual tranny truck.
Also carefully measure the driveshaft lengths for both the front and rear driveshafts if the truck is the same body style as yours(same wheel base, crew, extended or regular cab). If they are different than yours, get them also.
Both trucks should have a 1356 transfer case in them.
