Just yesterday I was driving and noticed that the wheel started pulling to the left as I came to the next stop light, I noticed smoke bellowing out of the wheel well, and the brakes were not working on that wheel. When you brake, the truck pulls hard to the right, thats the only wheel that is braking. Does anyone have any idea what could've caused this, and whats the problem? Someone told me it could be the bearings, but if it were, they wouldve been clicking and it wouldve shattered right? There was no debris when this happened. Thanks.
My first guess, and it is only a guess, is that something happened to the left hand side caliper that caused it to freeze in the closed position. You have basically damaged the brake pads on that side (that was all the smoke, you basically burned them) and likely boiled the brake fluid that side as well. You now have no brakes on the left front. I would guess you are going to at the very least need to replace the front pads and lubricate the caliper slide pins... but more likely you are going to need a full front brake job on that side (caliper, pads, rotor) and most certainly will need to bleed out the bad brake fluid over there. However, if it was the brakes that cooked over there then there had to be a reason for it. A bad caliper might be it, but it could also be crud in the brake line or something else.. you may need to also replace the flex line to the caliper. A visual inspection of the pads and rotor should tell you if it was indeed the brakes or if it was the bearing.
I agree, pull the wheel and see if the caliper is seized. If not, then concentrate on the flex brake line. You also probably need to replace the pads and maybe the rotor.
