Hello All, I am posting this for my Dad, who has an '03 B4000 4X4 automatic with 32,000 miles. His e-brake cable had to be replaced because it was not fully releasing. Due to the faulty e-brake cable, the shoes needed to be replaced and the drums turned, to the tune of $300. The issue we have is that the faulty e-brake cable was taken care of as a warranty item yet the damage to the braking system (shoes, drum turn) was not due to "brakes not being covered under the warranty", according to the dealer. This does not make sense to me. He bought the vehicle from the dealer and has had most of his service work done there as well. I have suggested he take it up with a regional service rep and the owner of the dealership. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
Bah BS. Brakes are NOT covered, however I believe they should cover what was obviously damaged by the e-brake.
The thing is you have enough miles they can claim it was just regular brake usage that wore them out, and charge you for them. Unless you're really good at arguing your point with them, you're gonna end up paying for the shoes.
Well with the milage on the vehicle, seems to me boh parties have some liability here, unless you can prove the "E" brake cables defect caused the bulk of the wear/damage.
Offer to go 50/50 on the cost, as thats probably about where normal wear would be at this mileage. I had to replace my front OEM pads at 50K, for instance.
If the Dealer won't go for that, run it by the Ford zone rep, he might judge that as reasonable.
I hope they did a brake fluid flush on the system!!!! If not, as a bare minimum, the rear brake system should have been flushed.
