I've looked at some different air bag setups. My main goal is to bring the overload spring "up" a little to get closer to the brackets. (Truck has rear add-a-leafs that put the stock helper spring too far away from stock brackets to do any good.) Plus, I'd also like to give the single leaf helper a little more heft.
Wonder if I just add another add-a-leaf under the helper spring if that would arch it up more to make contact sooner? Only thing additional I would need would be longer U bolts to accomodate the increased thickness. Hmmmm....
I like the ride with the current setup, as well as the load capacity, but I would really like to have the helper springs actually DO something if they are going to be there...
I haven't actually tried this, but plan on it as soon as I have the time. Remove the overload spring contact rubber (on the upper perch) and replace it with hockey pucks. Hockey pucks are very strong and you can adjust the overload contact distance by how many pucks are installed. Just make sure that the puck that the overload contacts has a counterbored hole so that the bolt that's holding the pucks in place doesn't rub on the spring. If I didn't already have Firestone Ride-rite airbags installed, I'd try this mod immediately.
