Disabling TPMS

I just recent acquired an 05 EB and recently plus sized to 22's for the summer only. Is there a way to disable the sensors?

I'm assuming TPMS is tire pressure monitoring system. I may be mistaken, but I think there's actually a law against disabling it.

You can *ask* your dealer. They will probably decline. Next, you can find an independent shop with a WDS. Third, you could be really cool and get a new set of sensor/transmitters installed in your new wheels!

So what did you do with your T.P.M.S. I just got some new 22" and I am looking into it as well. Also I need to get a programer to reset the computer to the right speed. Since I put new 22" inch rims it made a diff. in the speed.

I talked to a mechanic friend of mine that works for Ford dealership and he said there is no way it can disabled. He indicated that other sensors are involved in that same circuit (ie abs, rsc, yada, yada, yada)

Again, this will be my wheels for the summer only, since our winters in Chicago are pretty brutal with salt on roads.

Since I have 22" wheels on the car size 305-45-22 the car feels kinda of funny. lol well I kinda have to get used to it.

P.S. I heard that they have a plug in computer that lets you make changes to the tire size (for the right speed since we have put 22" on, and other things you can chance)

The Sensor in the wheels works with the computer. I also heard you can have only one ( 4 tires spare and the spare) set of sensor programed to the computer is this true? does any one else has this problems.??

some wheels cant take these sensors that are on the expys. not to mention with the low pros good chance in breaking one with the tire install. if you find a good shop that will do it, they should work if they will fit your wheels valve stem location. then you need to program them to the truck

Question 22 " wheels with T.P.M.S.

Can you have (2) sets programed to the computer? and and how can you get them programed? to the computer? They have two kinds of tpms one is in the Valve steam/ and I heard the other is a strap in the wheels. I have the V. Steam. Has any one else ran into this problem.

I have two sets of tires summer, and winter set. I bought 4 new sensors off ebay, and the calibration magnet. I used programing instructions and programed the new sensors. I have not had any problems. 05 Navigator.

Yes I got the factory sensors off ebay. and the magnet that is used in the calibration or training process. Here is the procedure for mounting and training the sensors below. Make sure you get the right sensors for your vehicle.

NOTE: My vehicle is equipped with a light blue-colored tire pressure sensor.

The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) will not operate correctly if black-colored tire pressure sensors are installed.
  1. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to Wheel and Tire in this section.
  1. CAUTION: Make sure to install a new sensor grommet or an air leak can occur.

NOTE: Do not remove the valve stem core to relieve the tire pressure.

The following illustration and table indicates parts making up the tire pressure monitoring sensor assembly.
  2. <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=3 width="70%" border=1><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD>1 </TD><TD>1A163 </TD><TD>Valve stem cap </TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD>2 </TD><TD>1A160 </TD><TD>Sensor retainer nut </TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD>3 </TD><TD>1A162 </TD><TD>Grommet </TD></TR><TR vAlign=top><TD>4 </TD><TD>1A150 </TD><TD>Tire pressure monitoring sensor (light blue) </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
1. CAUTION: Overtightening the tire pressure sensor valve stem nut can damage the tire pressure sensor, undertightening can cause air leaks. Install a new grommet on the tire pressure sensor.

NOTE: Do not allow the tire to rotate relative to the rim while mounting the tire.

2. Lubricate and mount the outside and inside bead of the tire to the rim.

3. NOTE: Sensor position is critical for correct sensor operation. The "flat" side of the sensor must be facing the wheel and the "slanted" side of the sensor must be facing away from the wheel. When correctly installed, there will be a very small gap between the sensor and the wheel.

NOTE: Tightening the nut to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) equals approximately two clockwise turns after the nut has been tightened by hand.

Push the side wall of the tire and install the tire pressure sensor. Tighten the nut.

4. CAUTION: Use only special tool 204-354 anytime tire pressures are measured to be sure that accurate values are obtained.
CAUTION: Place the air chuck straight on the valve stem to inflate the tire. Do not **** the air chuck during the inflation cycle. Doing so can damage the valve stem and cause air leaks.

Ford recommends using a round head air chuck on tire pressure sensors; it is not recommended to use air chucks with long shanks. Doing so can cause tire pressure sensor valve stem damage and loss of tire pressure.

CAUTION: Use only OEM valve caps (aluminum or plastic valve caps) with the tire pressure sensors. Do not use brass-threaded valve caps with the tire pressure sensors.

Inflate the tire to the pressure specified on the safety certification sticker located on the driver or door pillar

TRAINING NEW SENSORS
Sensor Training (Reset Procedure)

NOTE: The tire pressure monitoring system is not affected by wheel and tire rotation.

NOTE: The tire pressure sensor training procedure must be done on a single vehicle, in an area without radio frequency (RF) noise. RF noise is generated by electrical motor and appliance operation, cellular telephones, and remote transmitters.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  1. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position three times, ending in the RUN position. Do not wait more than two minutes between each key cycle.
  1. Press and release the brake pedal.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  1. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position three times, ending in the RUN position. Do not wait more than two minutes
6 The horn will sound once and the TPMS indicator will flash if train mode has been entered successfully. If equipped, the message center
displays "TRAIN LEFT FRONT TIRE", place the magnet on the valve stem of the LF tire pressure sensor. The horn will sound briefly to
indicate that the tire pressure sensor has been recognized by the TPMS module.
  1. Within two minutes after the horn sounds, place the magnet on the valve stem of the RF tire pressure sensor.
NOTE: If the TPMS module does not recognize any one of the four tire pressure sensors during the tire training procedure, the horn will sound twice and the message center (if equipped) will display "TIRE TRAINING MODE INCOMPLETE" and the procedure must be repeated.
  1. Repeat Step 7 for the RR and LR tires.
When the tire training procedure is complete, the horn will sound once and the message center (if equipped) will display "TIRE TRAINING MODE COMPLETE".

They are full of crap. Just my opinion though...I have two sets of wheels with sensors I have no problems. I would use another dealer service depatment.
