The problem was too many people just talked about it or said they Might or would Possibly go to one.
I was so disappointed with the fact that an extraordinary amount of people didn't pre-register to make these FTE events a total success.
Organizing meets on a National Scale is no easy task and the Kansas Chapter were perfect hosts and did a fantastic job in the short time they had in 2005.
To me it was as sacrilege for not having a #2 ralley and for it to be well attended.
There are over 200,000 people registered to FTE and mostly live in North America.
Why couldn't they make it a priority to show Ken & Peggy how much FTE means to them ?
Ken & Peggy didn't hesitate a moment to try and make National Meets a reality.
I just wish there were a cavalcade of people were ready to make it happen every year.
I had a great time and it was great experience to behold.
I have struck out and given up on having just a local get together in my area. Seems that the interest of many here is limited to the keyboard. I was hoping that the annual event would be a success that would move to different cities each year, removing the mileage barrier for a different group each year.
Dennis, I was there with you at the Cracker Barrel, and I do remember the food being very good. I think one of the reasons people didn't pre-register was due to timing, it had to be in right around Christmas and I don't know anyone that has extra money the register for an event 6 months out at that time. I understand Ken"s side in making sure that there are enough poeple to justify the event, but the timing just wasn't there. At least for me. I still would have gone, and made a point to let Ken know that in a post in the Planning forum, I just couldn't spare the cash.
I wish we could have done it again too, I think that for the first time, we had a better than average turn out, especially when one considers the amount of time that there was for planning and the distance between the people that put it together. It truly was a team effort between FTE, the KS Chapter, and a whole lot of volunteers from other chapters.
Wow. Where is there a Cracker Barrel in KC? I have lived here for 35 years and have never seen one. I guess if someone organised a meet and told me to go to the Cracker Barrel in KC, i'd be lost.
One year ago today, I scratched my belly drank another beer, and prayed that my coragous Marine Son was OK in Iraq.
He was ok. Today he is in Okinawa. He is a Gunny Sgt. He faces either an invasion of North Korea. Or another tour in Iraq. My hero has become my Son. What a warrior!
A raise and some vacation time. Corporate America is out of control.
Totally agreed. This time last year all of my vacation time was up, and I really cant afford to take 2 vacations a year anyhow. I really would like to attend these meets but I just cant get away sometimes, especially not to Kansas City.
We might consider a "open house" gathering here in Atlanta next year, as there is a huge park nearby (it could easily handle a couple hundred trucks), but nothing that's going to put me at the risk of losing lots of money like I did in '05.
Part of the reason we pulled the plug is because we honestly felt gun-shy after the 2005 event. We didn't even get the numbers the local chapter promised their membership would give. Peggy and I were not prepared to take a loss again on someone's word that they will show up --- no matter who they are. So when the pre-registration numbers weren't what we needed we canceled 2006.
Also, I think Kansas is a bad location for any future FTE show. Its nothing against the Kansas gang, they were great. Its just that show needs to be nearer the population centers of the east coast or west coast, as most large shows are. With east or west coast shows, half the people either fly in or drive across the country. With a central show in low population areas, everyone except the few locals is faced with having to fly in or make a long drive.
Absolutely correct. Maybe if something is lined up well in advance, like an unveiling. In a populace area, still centrally located, like Chicago? Maybe even the Detroit area? Anyone losing money is out of the question. If it were planned far enough in advance to make coming to the event, a worthwhile endeavor, I believe it could be done. Seriously though, the Cracker Barrel in KC? Class all the way huh?
In regard to the Kansas chapter. This probably isn't the place to vent. However, I went to one of their 'gtg's' back when they were the hot item. In fact, I was signed on as a member. When I showed up without a lowered 'sport truck', I was pretty much ignored. It is most definately a clique mentality and wasn't any fun being a part of. Not when I donated supplies to the gtg and had to drive a wallet full of gas there and back. I have since joined (inactively) the MO chapter. At least this time I will know a jackass when I see one.
