I'm considering installing and rear flip or front hinged hood has anyone done one and do they make a kit. I have real trust issues with the hood now I'm just waiting for it to open while where driving. Any suggestions. Thanks Bak
there is a company that makes a fiberglass front flip kit for Slicks, as well as fiberglass fenders, bedsides etc........... they also make a fiberglass 79 regular cab truck. this is all drag racing stuff but the flipnose was reasonably priced, it was more of a looks thing then fr the drag racing. trouble is, im having a hard time remebering what the comapny was called. it was on the internet for sure though.
I can't find the ad right now, but I have seen universal forward tilt hood kits in street rodder magazine. I'll keep looking and if I find it I'll let you know. I was considering doing this to my '66.

At the Ford Nationals a couple of years ago I saw a flip hood that used seat sliders mounted on the fender wells and a cable lock mounted in the hole in the center of the firewall. The owner had made all this himself. The slickest part of this idea was using the seat sliders to move the hood up and out when it was opened. He was local to Knoxville, maybe someone here knows him?
That is a boss idea. I was looking at the skill level and parts needed to modify my stock sheet metal to do that. Now I don't have to even touch it. It has been added to my favorites for me to dream about now. LOL

The black uni was built in a rod shop in Ohio and resides in Jersey.
Seat sliders from a buick were used, and custom modified with a pin at the front along with a hood latch installed in the cowl and some wire glide rails and slider blocks palced at the rear of the hood.
The hood needed to be unlatched then slid forward about a foot. then tilted up and forward of the upper valance.
Similar to an upgrade for an effie just not as large in the front hood hinge.
A cheap and effective of keeping your current hood latched is a elcheapo small master lock and a 3/8" hole drilled in the secondary saftey latch... No how no way will a large enough lock be pilled up through the square hole. Also works as a pretty good theft deterrant. Reach in through the grill and unlock it to open the hood. All of five bucks for the warm and fuzzies of not having the hood unlatch and smack the windshield.
Remember the spring clips and washer from the old days? How about some spring loaded latches like on military vehicles? That black truck was a real nice driver and those seat sliders looked like a very reasonable way to accomplish this tilt business using the original metal hood. I thought someone could do a technical article on that. Maybe develop a parts list and some patterns showing where to drill the holes. Hmmm...since I'll be retired soon...and have lots of time on my hands.
