Parts compatability
I'm new at this and I have a simple (hopefully) question.
I have a '65 F100 Shortbed Stepside that I purchased back in January for next to nothing. It is a wonderful truck, mechanically at least. The 240 runs like a top, 3-speed trany gives me no problems as long as I add about an ounce of fluid every 3 months or so and the brakes do a fine job stopping the beast.
I know the '61 - '66 are nearly identical so my question is this. Will the doors and the right front outer fender from a '64 F250 fit my '65? If the body parts will fit, I have found a cheap donor truck with a 292 V8 that doesn't run.
Thanks for any help!
1) Swap parts, get the '64 running then re-sell it.
2) Use what I need off the '64 for my '65, then sell anything left over.
Whichever route I take, my wife isn't going to be real happy until one of the trucks is gone! I bet that is a problem no one has ever run into before! (Insert major sarcasm!)
Just a thought, but the 65 has independent front supension. That is unless you like tha stright axle.
My 66 had a 240 three speed when I got it. I got a 73 390 Auto out of a F250 and motor mounts and all worked fine. This was all done back in 77 and I am still driving it. Just had to get a different drive shaft.
Eather way you will have a nice truck.
I only changed the moter because my 240 was getting a bit tird. Many time I wished
(with the price of gas) that I had kept the 240. I sure like the power the 390 makes though.
