Lower ball joint

I need to replace the lower ball joint on the drivers side to pass inspection. Any advice or tips? Do I need any special tools?

You will need a ball joint press to put it back in and a BFH to beat it out. This is assuming 2WD, 4WD may be a little more involved. You will also need a seperator for the ball joint and tie rod end. As far as advice, if your budget permits it, replace the uppers and the passenger side lower too. If one is bad, chances are the rest arent too far behind it.

Thanks. It's 4wd by the way. I'm trying to track down a press now. What is the seperator exactly?

A seperator is a fork that fits around the ball joint/ tie rod end and with a couple whacks of a hammer on the opposite end "seperates" the joint.
